A fascinating fellow was he...

Recent DNA evidence has established that Tutankhamen was Akhenaten's son and direct heir. Originaly known as TutankhATEN his name was changed soon after he became Pharaoh( at around 19 ) to TutankhAMEN to publicly break with Akhenaten's belief in the monotheism of the Aten-or visible Sun Disk and his return of Egypt to the worship of all the God(s) Amen or Amun being first among equals... yes it can be very confusing-I will hopefully clarify it for you during class-however remember one importatnat point -Akhenaten was the first Monotheist in history and his belief in one God was forced upon Egypt while he was Pharaoh. The result (for our purposes) was an aesthetic that embraced life and beauty, movement and change not to be seen again until the coming of the GREEKS.
